Sorry to hear, I wish you and your father the best.

As for the midterms, try notecards. It sound stupendously simple, but it worked well for me. Keep going through the deck, and remove any card you memorize (that forces your brain to dedicate more attempts to more difficult subjects). Reshuffle all your cards every hour or so, just to make sure you retain what you learn.

Dont dig yourself deep. Distract yourself cleaning a bike, dont wallow in anything. You need to be in good shape.

After the first trip to the hospital, did your dad go onto any medications? My girlfriends dad is recovering from major heart surgery, I have a good idea of what youre going through.

Drinking yourself into a hole is not where you should be.

Hey, take some time for yourself, go for a ride, smoke a cigarette, clean your bike, whatever.

When things get tough we seem to focus on everything but of our mental health.

I’m so sorry to hear that, I wish you all the best. My dad was in the hospital due to traumatic injury a little while ago so I know my previous statement doesn’t mean shit. Stay strong friend, you’ll make it through this. I know how much it hurts and that every day feels like a damn eternity but the days do in fact pass and that it doesn’t have to ruin your life.

Have your parents write out a log book for your dad moving forward. Everything he eats, everything he takes, how he feels afterwards, an hour after, if he ever feels funny at some point after. It helps narrow down if the medications are working for him.

Sounds silly, but it’s the most important thing he could do.

If things get really bad, you have the option to drop your courses for the semester. Different schools have different names for it, but most call it withdrawal due to hardship and it won’t count against you. However, don’t just stop going to school. Talk to your school advisor and let him/her know what is going on.

Prayers for you and your dad.
